Equity is a subject of mounting concern in international debates over climate change and the environment, yet such discussions are often hindered by the lack of a common understanding of the concept. This brief outlines a framework that describes four parameters of equity. The framework can be used to guide policy-makers and civil society in the design of new policies, legal instruments and programmes (e.g. REDD+) that advance equity and social justice.
