CDKN Inside Story: Ecuador’s Socio Bosque Programme

CDKN Inside Story: Ecuador’s Socio Bosque Programme
Ecuador’s Socio Bosque Programme has made strides in conserving forest and delivering vital economic benefits to communities and households, via its system of private conservation agreements.

The programme was not designed to attract funds from an emerging international finance system for Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+). However, the programme has achieved many of the intended outcomes of REDD+ programmes and has made a material contribution to Ecuador’s climate compatible development.

In this CDKN ‘Inside story on climate compatible development’, Jan Felse of Ithaca Environmental Consultants examines the motivations of the Socio Bosque programme, its structure, delivery and accomplishments, and what other countries can learn from Ecuador’s experience.
