A workshop held June 16-18 in Hanoi, Vietnam on the
application of Free and Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) in
the context of REDD has wide-reaching implications for
the use of FPIC globally. The event was a key consultation between. Indigenous Peoples organizations from Asia and The Pacific and the UN-REDD Programme on Free,Prior And Informed Consent Processes And Recourse
Mechanisms For REDD+. The purpose of the workshop
was to engage with a range of regional practitioners and
experts to develop a set of practical draft guidelines for achieving free, prior and informed consent, the results of which are to eventually feed into similar processes in Latin America and Africa. The significance of this meeting is not to be understated, and the results of it are much anticipated by UN-REDD actors as well as many within REDD+ circles generally.
